Two Juvenile Secured Schools for Youth

Presently, the ROC ministry is active at two facilities in Maricopa County. One is dedicated to adjudicated juvenile boys, and the other to adjudicated juvenile girls. The two are adjacent to one another, west of I-17 at the Pinnacle Peak Road exit.

Adobe Mountain School

This "secured school" is for juvenile boys, up to 18 years of age.  The ROC has adopted the Kachina cottage for 2009.  The youth in this dormitory have gang-related  issues that precipitated their incarceration. Since late summer 2008, the cottage also serves the general population.  Typically, a visit witnesses to 30-35 young men.  Because of the number of boys at Kachina, the staff conducts activities in a more structured atmosphere than at Black Canyon School.

Black Canyon School

This "secured school" is for juvenile girls, up to 18 years of age.  The ROC chose to adopt the Yemaya cottage for 2009.  The youth in this dormitory have emotional or mental health issues that impact their ability to value themselves.  This is usually unrelated to the reason for the incarceration.  Visits  have witnessed to as many as 25 and as few as 10 young women.  Because of the emotional make-up of the population, the staff conducts activities in an organized manner that is less formal than at Adobe Mountain School.  In June, 2008, the campus underwent a major restructuring.  By God's grace, ROC is now assigned to cottage #2 (of only 3 total on campus).  The population of cottage #2 is significantly greater than the former Maya unit.
